With the sense of good communication design and creativity: the jury 2017 (part 1)
The heart of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design is its jury. With its expertise, it assesses thousands of submissions each year, on the basis of established criteria. In 2017, there are 24 globally recognised experts who meet in Essen, Germany, to jointly decide in a multi-day process about awarding of the coveted label “Red Dot”. Some of these experts are repeatedly part of the jury. Among others Michel de Boer, Bettina Schulz, Chris Lee and Christof Rezk-Salama will select the winners of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2017.
Internationally recognised specialist journalism
German journalist Bettina Schulz has made a name for herself through her work as chief editor of the international specialist magazine “novum – World of Graphic Design”. She also works as a freelance writer and editor for national and international magazines as well as for clients from various sectors. She mostly likes about her profession that she can hold a hot off the press result in her hands every month, networking and that her job found a space in her life – not the other way around.
Over 10,000 kilometers of air line from Bettina Schulz’s workplace, juror Chris Lee was born. The Singaporean is founder and creative director of “Asylum”, one of the most respected creative companies in Asia. Since its inception in 1999, the agency has focused on cross-disciplinary projects that include interactive design, product development, environmental and interior design, packaging, apparel design, branding and graphic design. The reason why he chose being a designer: as a teenager he was a big fan of the music label 4AD, which represents artists like the “Pixies” or “Bon Iver”. His wish at the time: design such an impressive packaging design as the artists of the label used.
Professor Dr. Christof Rezk-Salama is one of the leading experts in gamedesign: First, the German designer studied computer science and obtained his PhD, then worked as a design engineer, habilitated and researched as a professor for several years at the Mediadesign University in Düsseldorf in the department of game design. He now holds a professorship for game development at the department of computer science at the University of Applied Sciences in Trier, Germany.
