Red Dot Award: Design Concept

Visual Communication

Visual Communication category at the Red Dot Award: Design Concept

Regardless of what the core of a message is – there are different ways of conveying it: in book oder magazine form, via corporate identity, on a website, using typography or animated short films. What is the message and how effectively is it conveyed? This is the key question that arises when designing visual communication. Evaluating the design will be the task of the jury of the Red Dot Award: Design Concept, because the category “Visual Communication” is opened for designers for submitting communication projects that were not commissioned or implemented by the customer. In recent years, exciting communication projects were awarded in the competition for concepts and prototypes.

Training for designers: An Insight Into Sight

The book “An Insight Into Sight”, which was awarded a Red Dot: Best of the Best in 2016, offers designers training materials to put themselves in the position of the visually impaired and to adapt the designs to their needs. The toolkit consists of three chapters: The first educates designers with regard to visual impairments, the second provides information on design basics such as font sizes, weights, colors and contrasts. Finally, designers can use prototyping and user tests to question their previous design with regard to visual impairments.

Brand identity: Yeouido Jazz Fireworks Festival

A design that could hardly express the essence of the brand more clearly: The design of the communication materials for the Yeouido Jazz Fireworks Festival 2019 is based on fireworks pictograms and silhouette-like photos of jazz musicians and dancers. The brand identity was awarded a Red Dot in 2019.

Website redesign: The Creamunion

With the minimalist black and white website layout, which is interrupted by bright accents in the color “Crush Pink”, the company “The Creamunion” was able to convince in the Red Dot Award: Design Concept 2018. The reduced page design supports the goal of the new website: to focus on the work of the agency. The pink color accents symbolise the strength of the agency and its sense for new things.
