On the move with good design: excellent means of transport
Human life is increasingly characterised by mobility. A wide variety of means of transport make it possible to move quickly and conveniently. Safety and comfort play an important role here. Trains, railways and busses are no longer understood as a means to an end. Through outstanding design, mobility becomes a remarkable experience and a moment of well-being. The best shaped products were awarded a prize in the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2019. Only the means of transport of highest design quality receive an award and therefore rank among the best in their industry.
Beautiful views
The “OMEGA V” ropeway cabin from CWA Constructions takes the design of gondola cabins to a new level. The maximum glazing and the sporty, simple seats offer the user an unrestricted view on the outside world during the ride. Concentration on the moment is supported by the fact that the functional details of the cabin melt together and are barely visible. This makes the means of transport appear light and minimalist. The Red Dot Jury awarded the highest distinction, the Red Dot: Best of the Best, to the successful design, which focuses on the visual experience.
Well-designed through day and night
The “Russian Railways Second-Class Night Train” from Vagonremmash was awarded the distinction “Red Dot” for its outstanding interior. Thanks to the partition walls and curtains, the design of the wagons, realised by the Ippiart Studio, offers passengers a comfortable retreat in spite of the spacious layout. Other benefits provided by the compartments include individual lighting, 220-volt sockets, USB connections, tables with drink holders and storage facilities for personal items.
Comfortable from A to B
As highly frequented means of transport, city trains have to meet high demands in terms of comfort and functionality. “Die neue S7” from Stadler Rail AG is the perfect answer to the various needs of passengers. Doors with low-floor entrances improve passenger flow. There is plenty of space in the train itself to enable passengers with prams, luggage or wheelchairs a pleasant journey. Illuminated stanchions set colourful accents which simultaneously indicate the opening and closing of the doors, thus increasing the safety of the guests. The dark seat covers and the carpet round off the compartments with a cosy atmosphere and complete the Red Dot winning design from RBS.
Surfing with style
For the passionate water racer, the jetboat “Sea-Doo RXT-X” from BRP offers a convincing design option for being on the water. With its narrow racing bench and angled wedges in the footwell, the rider’s position is stabilised even at high speeds and strong waves. The jetboat has room for two, with the option to remove the back seat. This creates more space for sunbathing on the rear platform. In addition to the generous design and the ergonomically optimised bench seat, the jetboat impresses with numerous other features that increase driving pleasure. Due to the high design quality, the Red Dot jury awarded the jetboat with a Red Dot.
Registration phase of the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2020 starts on 14 October
From 14 October 2019, designers and companies from all over the world have the opportunity to submit their products to the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2020. In addition to the “boats, trains and aircraft” category, they can enter their innovations in numerous other product groups – from bedroom furniture and tableware to jewellery, tools and garden furniture.
