Regular entry phase for Contemporary Good Design closes soon
The main entry phase for the international award “Contemporary Good Design” is in full swing. Designers and manufacturers from around the world have until 12 August to submit an entry for the competition. Latecomers can take until 11 September to register well-designed products. Only the entries with the best design will receive an award. In order to determine which ones they are, the jury will assess all entries in situ in the southern Chinese city of Xiamen. The decision of the experts is of great importance as the activities that accompany a prize at the competition can make a great difference to the success of a product.
Designers from around the world invited to submit entries
Designers and companies whose products are manufactured in an industrial production process are invited to submit their projects for the independent competition “Contemporary Good Design”, which was known until 2018 as “China Good Design”. Contenders have 49 categories to choose from including the new product group “Packaging design”.
Organised by Red Dot
Organised by Red Dot, the award draws on the know-how of one of the largest international design competitions. From the organisation of the call for submissions right through to the award ceremony and the service for winners, Red Dot supports and accompanies the entire process. Contemporary Good Design furthermore adheres to the evaluation criteria and the high standards expected by Red Dot.
Twelve experienced experts from around the world assess the entries. Just like in the Red Dot Award, the products are viewed and discussed one by one. One of the jurors is Gordon Bruce, who has many years of experience as a Red Dot jury member. “Contemporary Good Design has quickly become a valuable award,” the founder of Gordon Bruce Design says.
Young Professionals Application Day on 1 August
“I hope that many young professionals actively participate in the competition. Even though they may not win the award at first, they have the chance of being rewarded if they show persistence and determination,” Bruce says. Talented young designers who completed their training less than five years ago have the opportunity to apply for one of 50 free registration places as part of the Young Professionals Application Day on 1 August.
Winners benefit from extensive services
In order to make award-winners and their products better known at a global level and draw consumers’ attention to their design quality, the competition has instigated 15 measures which are reserved exclusively for winners. They include the presentation of the products in international exhibitions. The Red Dot Design Museum Xiamen, for instance, has a permanent exhibition of winners for Contemporary Good Design. But that is not all. Laureates also have a choice of other exhibition venues such as airports, shopping malls, design bookstores and universities.
Award-winners furthermore benefit from the use of the winner label which can be shown on product packaging, in marketing campaigns and at the point of sale. Its distinctive visual identity makes consumers aware of the good design quality that is associated with this label. Award-winning products are also presented in the Contemporary Good Design Yearbook and online.
