Red Dot Award: Design Concept

Tidy up and save space

Saving space with Red Dot award-winning design concepts

Tidying up has become the buzzword for the new year and space saving products are more than ever desirable for consumers. Whether it is to facilitate a more active lifestyle or to perform menial tasks around the home, being able to hide away one’s equipment and tools in a space-saving way is of advantage in several fields of everyday life. In the Red Dot Award: Design Concept, the jury finds the best-designed solutions for today’s challenges, among others products which help to save space in a world where space problems are becoming increasingly important. These four Red Dot winners are perfect examples:

Unfold and row

The “Easy, Folding Kayak” can be easily transported and stored. Kayaks that require assembly typically have over 30 parts, making assembly very complex for beginners. This piece of water sports equipment departs from traditionally large and cumbersome kayaks: designed as a single component, it significantly bridges the assembly and disassembly process, which requires only four steps and thus a shorter time.

No bulk weight training

“Innovative Dumbbell” incorporates fitness training seamlessly into work life. It utilises a volute clockwork spring as a medium and adjusts the dumbbell weights by controlling the tightness of the spring. Smaller and lighter than regular fitness devices, the “Innovative Dumbbell” can be brought along easily on vacation. It is versatile and simple in its usage.

Clever garden helper

For urban and small-scale gardeners with limited space, “FREND” is an impressive solution as it is a foldable wheelbarrow that is easy to assemble, repair and store. By unhooking the fasteners on the edges, the “FREND” wheelbarrow can be flat-folded. When closed, the sides are secured by powerful magnets.

Special kind of faucet

A new approach to sinks is taken by “FLAT TAP”, with water emerging from wherever users reach out to wash their hands. The sink can be used by several people at the same time, what is especially advantageous in a crowded restroom with a limited number of faucets.
