“TULIP Feuerring”: When product and communication design complete each other perfectly
The Red Dot Award breaks down into three different disciplines: Red Dot Award: Product Design, Red Dot Award: Communication Design and Red Dot Award: Design Concept. Although the three competitions are carried out independently, they complete each other perfectly. Can there be a well designed product without a sophisticated design concept? Can a product be successful without good communication design? The fireplace “TULIP Feuerring” and the corresponding Cookbook Set “FEUER & RING” are a prime example for ideally matched product and communication design.
Fire is synonymous with cosiness and togetherness. The “TULIP Feuerring” (engl.: firering) is a fascinating reinterpretation of an archaic fireplace. It is made of untreated steel in the shape of a bowl and the inner ring serves as a grill. Using a special welding technique, the grill ring is connected seamlessly to the bowl. This prevents any deformation due to temperature differences and guarantees perfect heat distribution. The intermediate bottom entails that the fire is always set at a visible level. With its functional as well as aesthetic design, based on a convincing symbiosis of form and material, the fireplace creates an atmosphere of warmth and sociability. It convinced the jury and thus received the distinction Red Dot: Best of the Best in the Red Dot Award: Product Design.
The corresponding Cookbook Set “FEUER & RING” (engl.: fire and ring) also convinces through its aesthetic design and promises evenings in a cosy atmosphere. The two books contain more than 70 recipes ranging from smaller dishes to entire courses which can all be prepared with the “TULIP Feuerring”. With the idea of presenting an authentic as well as culinarily inviting appearance, the photographs of the dishes were shot in daylight without enhancement of artificial aids. They visualise the communal experience of grilling and feature step-by-step explanations of the dish preparation process. The black design as well as the golden title of the book series underline the high quality and make it look precious. They furthermore establish a connection to the aesthetic design of the fireplace. For the jury of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2016, one thing was clear: The cookbook has to receive the distinction Red Dot: Best of the Best.
