The design of this poster combines the two motifs of “niu gui” (cow devils) and “she shen” (snake spirits), both originating from Buddhist language. It thus takes up a specific symbolism that points in the directions of fantasy and the bizarre. The poster reconstructs the four Chinese characters (“niu gui” and “she shen”) and seeps them onto the cloth. Sealed, rubbed, glued and wrinkled, the poster design has been further explored and reflected during the whole process. Characterised by a supernatural feel and murkiness, the poster provides an interesting footnote to black humour.
