Auspicious Lamp

Auspicious Lamp | Red Dot Design Award

The design of the Auspicious Lamp is inspired by the Chinese tradition of decorating house entrances with characters and banners featuring proverbs to bring good fortune. When the lamp is turned to switch the light on or off, the meaning of the common characters for spring (chun), abundance (man), fortune (cai) and luck (fu) is expanded. Since the Chinese word for “turning” sounds like the word for “arriving”, the upside-down characters also mean “spring has arrived”, “abundance has arrived”, “fortune has arrived” and “luck has arrived”.
