Barmer, one of Germany’s largest statutory health insurance providers, has developed the Amazon Echo skill “Schlafenszeit” (Bedtime), which is aimed at helping users fall asleep in an auditory manner, without technology distracting from the essential. Users control the application solely by their voice and can choose via simple voice commands between four different sleep aids: soft pieces of music with spherical sounds, relaxing sounds such as the crackling of a fireplace, imaginative dream journeys, or “counting sheep”. Every audio file has been approved and optimised by sleep experts.
