“Becalmed” aims to instil a sense of reassurance and raise awareness for children with asthma in New Zealand. In contrast to many publications that deal with the technical implications of this illness, these illustrations focus on emotional effects. For this purpose, the series uses stylistic devices such as allegories and parables. One side shows colourful illustrations of the adventures of a pirate which are suitable for children. They are contrasted with black and white drawings on the other side, which translate these episodes into stories of everyday life.
