“Books – The Peerless Beauty” is the main heading of two events held in the Chinese metropolis of Shenzhen, dedicated to the beauty of books and a showcase of the principle that good design turns reading into a pleasure: the Shenzhen Books Design Forum & Shenzhen Books Design Invitation Exhibition. The logo for these events embodies a purely typographical design solution: it is based on Chinese characters emphasising the specific charm of this writing system. Accentuating and stretching the horizontal strokes of all characters used, the graphic illustration turns the characters into formally abstracted shapes that trace the outlines of books. It aims to communicate the appearance of traditional paper books as well as the beauty of their form and material, and thus the emotions and the appeal that book culture represents. In addition, orange tones were chosen as a highlight on all media, including posters, brochures and invitation cards, to convey warmth, modernity and distinction.
