This handmade painting book about the Mogao Caves in Dunhuang, China, a centre of trade along the Silk Road, documents the work of a researcher who lived there for 40 years. It targets both mural painting professionals and fans. Individual fragments on every page reflect the features of each cave in an authentic way. Custom-made bamboo paper was torn into small pieces and then pasted onto the book cover to create a unique, seemingly random look. Through the expressive production process, each copy has the appearance of an authentic historic book communicating the relevance of the caves.
