Everyone is equal. No one is more equal.

Pro Infirmis is Switzerland’s largest national professional organisation for people with disabilities, advocating for equal chances, self-determination and autonomy in all areas of life. Renowned for its spectacular ads, the organisation’s latest awareness campaign deliberately breaks with the clichés of NGO campaigns. Thus, the online film is more of a comedy, than an otherwise often too obvious tear-jerker, and shows people with disabilities as simply a part of our society. It features 13 different protagonists with various disabilities, dealing with some of life’s frustrating everyday challenges – such as a vending machine that keeps spitting out the same coin over and over again or a heavy paper shopping bag that tears apart on the way home spilling all food items all over the ground. These are challenges that all people know and that can drive anybody to despair. As for music, the energetic 1957 song “Jump Down, Spin Around” by Harry Belafonte supports the wit and vigour conveyed by the film, together with the confident message that “everyone is equal” and “no one is more equal than anyone else”.

Begründung der Jury

This online film for the Swiss organisation for people with disabilities is a perfect work. In an outstanding manner and through a plot that is both humorous and humane, the film manages to convey that people are all equal and are faced with the same challenges in everyday life. Shot with a blink in the eye, the film’s message is underlined by a song from the 1950s that adds to the projected sense of lightness and liveliness.
