Floor Tearoom Series

Traditional Chinese furniture has a long history which remains precious. However, its strong regulation and limitations pose a constraint in the design and production continuity of such furniture in modern times. The Floor Tearoom Series deconstructs the fine features of Ming tearoom furniture and reproduces it in contemporary fashion. The furniture series comprises “The Poise” (the floor tea table) and “The Original” (the armchair). “The Poise” features an integrated circle and rectangle – the basic form of traditional Chinese furniture – joined with poise and built with a concealed compartment for the disposal of waste water. “The Original” retains the frame of the traditional Ming armchair, only reproduced in a simplified, modern design. The wood utilised in making the Floor Tearoom Series is native to the rainforest in East Africa, and has an average lifespan of 300 years.
