Heimlich is a cocktail bar located in the German town of Osnabrück. The aim in creating its visual identity was to mediate exclusivity, comfort, intimacy and tradition as well as to communicate the bar’s unusual name, which means “secret” and “homey”. Relying on a small visual vocabulary – including a simple monogram, handwritten typography, and a strong black/white contrast – has resulted in a remarkable visual language. The central theme of this new visual identity is the concealment of content by using a seal, rub-off ink, a stamp, and unobtrusive external lettering.
