Aimed at younger children, MakerBlocks combines the elements of technology-based gaming and physical creativity into an appealing virtual city-building game. Played on a tablet device, the game requires players to physically make things needed for the game using a seemingly traditional style toy construction kit. The blocks within the kit, however, have inbuilt technology that feeds details of the completed item into the virtual application. The overall objective of the game is to build a virtual city by creating objects such as houses and vehicles using physical blocks. Players solve the problems prescribed by the game to increase the happiness of their city. Once the player has finished building their solution with the physical blocks, they can import their model into the game application. Once imported, the player can assign game-suggested functions to the shapes in their model.
