Munich Documentation Centre for the History of National Socialism

Zurück Download

The Munich Documentation Centre for the History of National Socialism confronts the city’s Nazi history, focusing on what it means for the past and the future. The newly developed brand design including corporate design supports the centre in presenting itself as an open, future-oriented place of education and remembrance, aimed at not only documenting history but also making it tangible on an emotional level. The minimalist logo – a square frame with longitudinal stripes on the inside and outside – picks up on the architecture of the building and is complemented by a vibrant design system for the website, print media and digital content. The typeface, inspired by a book cover from the “Library of Burnt Books”, combines with these special lines to create an independent look that debuted in the temporary exhibition “Heimrad Bäcker” and was communicated on postcards, flyers, facades, posters and on Instagram.

Begründung der Jury

The new corporate design of the Munich Documentation Centre for the History of National Socialism is particularly impressive in that it appears calm, restrained and almost plain in view of the weight and seriousness of the subject. The reduction to straight and strict lines, which is reflected in the typeface and especially in the logo, the latter of which excellently picks up on the architecture of the centre, makes the sharp focus on the content all the more impressive.
