Resting

Resting is inspired by the harmonious structure and smooth lines of the Chinese character “止” (zhi), (which means to stop) in the seal script work of “The Engravings on Mount Yi”. There are two reasons for using this character. On the one hand, the structure of the character is appropriate for the function, but it also hopes to convey to people that they can always stop and rest temporarily in their fast-paced lives, if only for a while. According to traditional Chinese art philosophy, “calligraphy and painting have the same origin”. In the field of furniture, it can also be said that “calligraphy and furniture have the same origin”. This aesthetic is not explicitly defined, but it exists traditionally in Chinese furniture design, which is rich in symbols and patterns. This is undeniably Chinese, yet only superficial. What Resting hopes to achieve is to use symbols sparingly and express the true spirit of Chinese design deeply through the sense of line from calligraphy, thereby providing a meaningful kind of oriental-inspired artistry in people’s homes. Resting strives for both function and beauty. All parts of Resting are connected by mortise and tenon construction to facilitate user self-assembly and enhance the delightful experience. It can be shipped as flat-packed components, and it supports the purchase of individual components to replace any damaged or missing parts. All of this is done to extend the lifespan of the product sustainably. Resting is available in four wood finishes: walnut, oak, ash, and cherry, and uses decking oil as surface coating, which highlights the natural beauty of logs while being more environmentally friendly.
