Robotic Air Hockey

Zurück Download

This system is a modernisation of classic air hockey, deeply embedded with robotics and technology to provide users with a completely new opponent and experience. The integrated internal robot employs an X-Y gantry system mounted beneath the playing surface, which magnetically couples to a custom-designed striker on top. When a user shoots at the goal, the robot uses an overhead camera to track the puck and moves its striker magnetically. This adds a magical element to the game and allows for seamless switching between robotic and standard two-player games. Users can control the gantry system by plugging their device into a port on the robot side of the table. This effectively transforms the robot into an extension of the user’s body, allowing those with limited mobility to play while providing a new challenge for air hockey veterans. Touchscreen control panels and ultra-wide, high-definition displays have replaced the traditional coin slot and 8-segment scoreboards. During gameplay, the user is treated to high-definition reactive lighting, custom animations, and sound effects. A high-speed camera mounted in the overhead arch provides sight to the robot and a streamlined gaming experience to the user. Placing a puck on the table surface initiates the game, and the robot uses the video feed to track the puck and respond appropriately during gameplay. Some components were specifically designed to aid in transportation and accessibility. Examples include a locking hinge that lowers the entire electronics arch and removable panels with pull-out drawers for easy access to the computing systems.
