The Chain Effect

The Chain Effect | Red Dot Design Award

The “Chain Effect” has been developed as part of the Urban Matters project by MINI. It was launched as an ongoing project to identify urban issues and create interesting design solutions. As current bicycle parking lots are informed by the “box” design of car-parking spaces but protrude into the walkway space for pedestrians, this design aims to free up 0.4 metres of walkway width for pedestrians as compared to the old design. After the prototype was received positively in the Changning District of Shanghai, more cities and municipal areas have begun to implement it.
