The Cloud Mountain Type

Back

The design of the Cloud Mountain Type was inspired by the cloud- and mist-covered Zhangjiajie Mountains in China, and also by ancient Chinese landscape painting. According to a Chinese saying, you cannot know the shape of a mountain when you stand on it. Likewise, the typography challenges the beholder to take a closer look, for the individual letters are not easily recognisable when viewing only the details of the hazy shapes that comprise the font. Thus, in an experimental way, the typography encourages one to look at things more carefully and trains the eye to engage with the whole picture.
