The Fruit Of My Woman

This proposed spec opening sequence was produced for 'The Fruit Of My Woman', a prospective television adaptation of the similarly titled story written by Korean author Han Kang. The story portrays how, over the course of a marriage, a wife transforms from a once youthful and free-spirited woman into a gradually ageing, submissive, and withering soul. Using a magical realism storytelling lens similar to Kafka's The Metamorphosis, the wife in the story eventually turns into a plant on the balcony, depending on her husband to water her in order to survive. Her ultimate fate, like that of most plants, is to reach the end of life as winter approaches. To visualise this textual fantasy, photorealistic rendering is used to create the title sequence, with atmospheric imagery depicting a withering wife who is continually suppressed in marriage and forced to retreat inward, eventually losing her sense of self.
