For the first time in Germany, a special issue stamp has been dedicated to the topic of mourning. The bereavement stamp can discreetly adorn letters which contain a sad message. Its motif shows three white arum lily flowers, also called calla lilies, which symbolise mourning and the bond with the bereaved person. Two of these blossoms have been united to form a pair, one of which has a transparent design, symbolising the transcendent experience. The black bar at the lower edge of the stamp underlines this symbolic effect.
