UNICONE is an orthopaedic instrument used in UKA surgery. It is used during prosthesis implants and helps with accurate kinematic knee alignment and tibial bone resection. As it is designed for use in minimally invasive surgery, UNICONE improves upon traditional instruments, with better appearance, functionality and user interface.
In most circumstances, tibial resection is the first step in UKA. The replacement of the pathological knee joint with a prosthesis comes after. The success of UKA directly impacts the accuracy of the following osteotomy and prosthetic implant. Thus, surgeons need to ensure that the kinematic knee alignment is correct and accurate, which will not only impact the rest of the surgeries, but also aid in the patient’s overall rehabilitation and longevity of the prosthetic.
To achieve accurate kinematic knee alignment, UNICONE provides adjustable sagittal cutting, horizontal cutting and posterior slope levels. With surgeons and patients’ safety and efficiency in mind, UNICONE offers a significant improvement in the user interface as well. Specially designed knobs help surgeons perform accurate and fine adjustments. Distinct colours are used for easy identification of functional areas. The whole instrument can be quickly dismantled into several single pieces for easy transportation, sterilisation, assembly and storage. Further, UNICONE is made from biocompatible materials such as titanium alloy, medical-grade stainless steel and polyphenylsulfone.
