Go is an abstract strategy board game suitable that has gained popularity around the world. However, traditional Go has many portability problems due to its bulk, weight and the many small pieces that are easily lost. UP&DOWN redesigns the Go board and provides a new way of playing. Unlike traditional Go that needs a set of things, UP&DOWN combines the boards and pieces into a single retractable scroll structure.
Unrolling the scroll to reveal a unique white game board, what seems like indentations or buttons serve as the game pieces. Made of silica gel, players only have to gently press the side of one of the buttons to release and pull it up. The pulled-up buttons would represent the white pieces and while the indented buttons represent the black pieces. Players play as usual, and visually differentiating both sides does not take much effort.
The scroll design makes the game set more portable and space efficient when in storage. With UP&DOWN, users no longer need to prepare two containers for two colours of Go pieces. It brings an unprecedented experience to users, which encourages more people to try out the game.
