All design concepts can only be submitted online at the participant portal.

  1. Create an account through the participant portal.
  2. Click on “prepare your entry”.
  3. Upload your presentation files and fill in the entry information.
  4. Save entry.
  5. Click on “Submit your draft entry” to submit and pay for the entry.

Your presentation boards should include the following:

  • brief description of your design concept
  • what can the design concept do or the solution it can provide
  • innovation or novelty of the product
  • visual images of the product
  • use scenario (if applicable)

For more complex concepts,

  • include the technology or material behind the concept
  • information on how it can be produced
  • explain why is it important or why is it the next trend

  • jpg format only
  • 5 pages or less
  • maximum 2Mb in size or less for each page
  • A3 sized
  • portrait orientation
  • Font size: at least 12 points
  • bottom left corner: page numbers and total number of pages
  • Remove all organisation’s logo, names and images of designers.

You may enter as many design concepts as you wish.

What is the "date of creation" for?

What is the "date of creation" for?

It refers to the date on which the design concept is first created. This is important in the event of an intellectual property dispute.

Can I make changes after saving my entry?

You can make changes after saving your entry. However, after submitting your entry, you will not be able to make amendments.

Where do I provide details of my team members?

For companies
You do not have to provide the details of your team members at this stage. You will only need to provide this information if your work is awarded. If the work is awarded, you can include credits for up to eleven names.

For small companies and design studios
You do not have to provide the details of your team members at this stage. You will only need to provide this information if your work is awarded. If the work is awarded, you can include credits for up to six names.

For institutions
You do not have to provide the details of your team members at this stage. You will only need to provide this information if your work is awarded. If the work is awarded, you can include credits for up to a maximum of two faculty members and eight students.

For groups
The preparation form will provide fields for you to fill in details of your team members.

You can group a series of design concepts and submit it as one entry if they are based upon a common concept. Otherwise, they have to be submitted as separate entries.

What language can I use to present my design concept?

You may present your design concept in English, German, Korean, or Chinese if you submit your design concept before 28 March 2019. After 27 March 2018, the entries must be submitted in English only.

Will my design concept be at a disadvantage if I submit it in a non-English language?

No, the jury members evaluating your design concept will be native speakers of the language.

Is it compulsory to engage the professional translation services for final judging?

Is it compulsory to engage the professional translation services for final judging?

No, as long as you provide an English version of your design concept for final judging.

Can I submit my design concept in landscape orientation?

Can I submit my design concept in landscape orientation?

No, your presentation must be in portrait orientation.

We do not have templates determining how you should present your entry. There are format guidelines as to what information you should include in the presentation. You can find the format requirements here.

After submitting your entry

No. The entry(s) you have uploaded will be printed for final judging.

If you are at the "draft entry” stage, you can still amend your entry information. If you have already submitted the entry, no changes can be made.

After submitting an entry, you will receive a confirmation email. All submitted entries will also be recorded in the “Status and result” section of the participant portal.

Please check your junk/spam mailbox for the email. Please also check the security settings of your mail server and allow automated emails from Red Dot.

If you are unable to find it, please login to the participant portal. In the Status and Result page, you will find all the entries that you have submitted.

When will the results be announced?

Results will be sent to you privately in mid July 2019. The announcement will be made officially announced to the public during the awarding ceremony on 25 September 2019.

Optional materials

Do I have to send in a prototype / mock-up / video for my design concept?

Do I have to send in a prototype / mock-up / video for my design concept?

Prototypes, mock-ups, and videos are additional materials and optional. You may send them in if you think they will help the jury better understand your design concept.

You may send prototypes, mock-ups or videos to us if you are submitting your design concept during the late submission period or you have received notification that your design concept will be proceeding to final judging. Provide a download link at the “prepare your entry” form or final judging application form via the participant portal. Recommended website links include vimeo, dropbox, google drive, or baidu.

All prototypes sent will be subject to an administrative fee of SGD100, this does not include shipping. Prototypes larger than 0.5 m x 0.5 m x 0.5 m or heavier than 25kg, the administrative fee is SGD200. For prototype larger than 1m x 1m x 1m or heavier than 50kg, please contact us to assess the handling and costs.

Due to the fragility and one-off nature of prototypes, and mock-ups, please make your decision to send the prototypes/mock-ups carefully. Red Dot Singapore’s liability is limited to SGD500 for any damage incurred during judging, storage, and/or exhibition of the prototype/mock-up.

Please ensure that product deliveries are handled in accordance with the customs requirements for the free trade of goods (Delivered Duty Paid). If you decide for a temporary import, it is essential that you use a freight forwarder, i.e. do not use a courier, express packet service, etc. More details can be obtained from your nearest customs office.

Please label the packaging as well as the prototype/model with your entry ID.

Prototypes/models for the competition will only be received between 2 May 2019 to 23 May 2019.
