Your award-winning submersible waste-water pump marries efficiency with usability. How do you make such a system intuitive to operate even under tough conditions?
We always focus on the user. Right at the start of the project, we analysed how the pump would be operated as well as the ergonomic requirements and looked at how we could simplify maintenance. A clear layout and overview were equally important. All relevant components had to be immediately understandable. From a technical perspective, it was important to automate complex processes to prevent operating errors in stressful situations. The result is a system that delivers an outstanding performance, is robust as well as easy and safe to operate.
Is the design of durable, high-quality products the most sustainable solution for design and manufacturing?
Genuine sustainability begins with durability. A product that continues to work for decades saves an enormous amount of resources compared to short-lived alternatives, even if it initially requires more energy or better materials in production. We combine durable robustness with a timeless appearance: a pared-back, clean design without fashion-influenced effects that does not age. At the same time, right from the start we think about making the product easy to repair and upgrade. That creates a cycle where usability takes precedence over new products – the most effective form of sustainability.
In your opinion, what defines true design quality?
True design quality is achieved when all aspects of a product seamlessly complement each other. If it reliably and safely fulfils its key function and is intuitive to use even under difficult conditions owing to its clear ergonomics. At the same time, the product must also appeal to the senses – with its high-quality materials, engaging tactile properties and a design vocabulary that creates trust. Since it is made from easy-to-repair components, it continues to function and stays current for many years. Finally, every detail consistently conveys the brand values, so the user has an unfailingly dependable experience.
