Harnessing Every Ray, Every Day
City-Pod & Urban-Pod (U-Pod) are transportation concepts developed by Hyundai Motor Company, with in-house design by Hyundai Genesis Global Design. This project received Red Dot: Best of the Best in the Autonomous category at the Red Dot Award: Design Concept 2025. The solutions are explored around diverse consumer engagement scenarios, using digital twin technology, UX-focused visual considerations, and ergonomic studies. Users can select logistics options such as frozen or ambient-temperature delivery, with real-time visual tracking of the process.

City-Pod features a bridge-shaped modular structure that supports efficient cargo exchange. Its body-swapping system allows streamlined loading and unloading across platforms of varying heights. As a mobile logistics node, it addresses space and location limitations of traditional distribution centres. Beyond parcel delivery, it can handle industrial materials or function in agricultural tasks.
U-Pod is an electric-powered, self-driving logistics vehicle capable of recognising and following people or objects, with a remote-control function. It rotates 360 degrees in place for manoeuvring in tight urban environments. The customisable top platform accommodates different Pod sizes, enabling flexible configurations based on specific needs.
Together, City-Pod and U-Pod form an unmanned urban mobility solution for transporting people, luggage, and goods. They connect the middle-mile and last-mile stages of logistics, complemented by a first-mile mobility trailer drone that rounds out the integrated system. The design concept highlights how design can explore more adaptable, connected approaches to urban delivery challenges, supporting efficiency and flexibility in dense environments.
