Red Dot Award: Product Design 2016: Dr. Luisa Bocchietto, Datuk Prof. Jimmy Choo and Hideshi Hamaguchi part of the jury

Until 10 February 2016, manufacturers and designers from around the world have the chance to register their products for the renowned design competition and to face one of the biggest global product comparisons. Which design will be bestowed with the coveted "Red Dot" will be assessed by an international jury of independent design experts. In February, about 40 jury members devotes themselves to each product live and on-site for several days. The team comprises among others, the experienced Red Dot judges Dr. Luisa Bocchietto, Datuk Professor Jimmy Choo and Hideshi Hamaguchi.

Dr. Luisa Bocchietto (Italy) stands for expertise in the fields of architecture and design, which she expresses in numerous articles, exhibitions and as a visiting professor. Together with her professional activities, over the years she has had various roles in numerous ventures aimed at providing support for the spread of design quality. Currently, she is a member of the Icsid Board, the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design among others. Since January 2015 she is Editorial Director of PLATFORM, a new magazine about Architecture and Design.

The shoe designer Datuk’ Professor Jimmy Choo (Malaysia/Great Britain) is well known for is couture label, which he founded in 1983. He also opened a shoe shop in London’s East End whose regular customers included Diana, Princess of Wales. Moreover, he founded a ready-to-wear line with Tom Yeardye in 1996. He is an ambassador for footwear education at the London College of Fashion, a spokesperson for the British Council in their promotion of British Education to foreign students and also spends time working with the non-profit programme, "Teach For Malaysia". In 2003, Datuk’ Jimmy Choo was honoured for his contribution to fashion by Queen Elizabeth II. who appointed him "Officer of the Order of the British Empire". Jimmy Choo is also holder of the Malaysian honorary title "Datuk’".

Hideshi Hamaguchi started his career with Panasonic in Japan, Hamaguchi later became director of the New Business Planning Group at Panasonic Electric Works, Ltd. and then executive vice president of Panasonic Electric Works Laboratory of America, Inc. Hideshi Hamaguchi has over 15 years of experience in defining strategies and decision-making, as well as in concept development for various industries and businesses. In 1993, he developed Japan’s first corporate Intranet and also led the concept development for the first USB flash drive. As Executive Fellow at Ziba Design and CEO at monogoto, he is today considered a leading mind in creative concept and strategy development on both sides of the Pacific and is involved in almost every project this renowned business consultancy takes on. For clients such as FedEx, Polycom and M-System he has led the development of several award-winning products.

The adjudication process follows strict criteria, which are constantly adapted to the latest findings in formal, technical, manufacturing, societal, industrial and ecological requirements. These include the degree of innovation, formal quality, functionality and ecological compatibility.
