Prof. Dr. Joseph Francis Wong
Professor Joseph Francis Wong received a bachelor of arts in architecture from the University of California, Berkeley, a master’s degree in architecture from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a PhD in education from the University of Leicester. He taught architectural design and theory as an associate professor at the City University of Hong Kong for 19 years and was the vice principal of the Hong Kong Design Institute for four years. Professor Wong was the executive director of the Hong Kong Design Centre from 2021 to 2023. He returned to the City University of Hong Kong in 2024 and is now professor of practice, focusing mainly on cultural and creative industry policies.
Professor Wong is a fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects, where he was elected to the council between 2021 and 2022. He has served on various boards and chaired the Environment and Sustainable Design Committee. His research on open building and spatial/visual field analysis has been presented at many conferences and published in various journals, including Design Studies, Habitat International, Environment and Planning B and the Journal of Architecture. In 2014, Professor Wong was awarded the Berkeley Prize International Fellowship in recognition of his contribution to design education.
