Ambient Experience IBA Proton Therapy Suite (Willis Knighton)

Proton therapy is used today to treat various types of cancer, as it is gentler than other forms of radiotherapy. A special treatment room for proton therapy will be opened in the Willis Knighton Medical Center in Louisiana, USA, in 2014. Based on the “Ambient Experience” design concept, this room provides a soothing setting that puts the focus on the wellbeing of all concerned. Contemporary media, a rooflight that can act as a screen for animations and lighting are set up in such a way in the therapy room, that they create harmoniously flowing units. The multimedia can be adapted to the individual requirements of the cancer patient. Sound can be regulated smoothly and the room is atmospherically lit with soothing or dynamic LED lighting. The interior of the therapy room has organically rounded contours and a clever colour concept that produces an atmosphere of clarity and peace. The room has been created to have no angles and to appear uncluttered, devoid of any obtrusive elements. That in turn results in highly functional surroundings for the medical staff. The Ambient Experience concept has produced a successful and sensitive interpretation of a therapy room. Surrounded by empathetic architecture and surroundings equipped with media, cancer patients will feel well cared for.
