ARROWatch – Watch Design

The ARROWatch is Ion Lucin's first watch design. The intention was to innovate, explore, and create the unexpected. Creating a never-before-seen watch design is not easy, especially given that the object has existed and continued to evolve for centuries. The first step to designing was to synthesise and reach the core of the object. At its essence, a watch simply tells us where to look at a given moment in time. We can design and alter the appearance of that information - through colour, shapes, and form - but why not innovate by creating an unexpected way of directing the gaze? The arrow is a universal graphic symbol - used to point, guide, and direct attention. It also conveys and controls the flow of information. On the ARROWatch, the hour dial is divided into eight segments: three coloured to form the arrow, five left transparent, with the rest of the area in black. Only select portions of the time dial are visible, and the coloured arrow guides the gaze to reveal the time. ARROWatch features only an hour disc, with information displayed in hours and half-hours.
