The Netherlands-based hotel chain citizenM strived to translate the characteristic values of its brand – colourful interiors and friendly, smiling staff – to its digital platforms – website, in-room tablet and check-in kiosk – keeping the mobile app at the heart of everything. The app allows guests to control everything from booking to check-in and beyond, including the opening of room doors, the adjustment of lights, blinds and temperature inside the room, as well as ordering food. A contextual card located prominently on the dashboard offers the most relevant next action based on where users are in their journey. A city guide section and the playful “citizen passport” feature, whereby guests can collect digital stamps, complement the app.
