Nanjing Cloud Brocade Loom Museum

Centred on the concept of 'weaving space-time', the architecture of the Nanjing Cloud Brocade Loom Museum establishes a synergistic interplay between parametric algorithms and traditional construction techniques. The design team employed topological algorithms to deconstruct the warp-weft matrix of traditional looms, translating two-dimensional weaving logic into three-dimensional spatial configurations. The main structure adopts a composite system of concrete framework with CNC-machined wooden grilles, forging a dialogue between material and history. Through gradient density arrangements (ranging from 5 to 25 cm intervals) that reinterpret the warp-weft principles of cloud brocade weaving, the architecture simultaneously generates time-responsive light-shadow rhythms. Organised thematically across three storeys, the architecture invites visitors on a layered journey through tradition, technology, and imagination. The 'Historical Dimension' basement features immersive holographic theatres that reconstruct Ming Dynasty drawloom operations at a 1:1 scale. The 'Contemporary Interface' ground floor integrates interactive corridors with pressure-sensitive loom installations and digital twin systems. The experience culminates on the second floor, 'Future Vision', where translucent concrete domes shape luminous, ever-shifting field exhibitions showcasing contemporary fibre art.
