The orientation system for the new building at the Robert Schumann Musikhochschule Düsseldorf effectively guides users and visitors to their respective destination. Colour coding is used to distinguish between the various types of usage areas. In order to indicate directions, the system employs two arrow elements borrowed from music notation, as befits a conservatoire. The crescendo sign shows directions, pointing either left or right. Where the path leads straight ahead, the marcato sign stands aligned to the left or right above the name of the room. All the waymarks consist of plotted notation applied directly to exposed concrete or other substrates.
