There is no such thing as a New Zealand typeface

Focusing on National 2, a typeface by Klim Type Foundry based in Wellington, New Zealand, this exhibition deals with the question of how identities are formed through symbols, imagery, beliefs and language. The exhibition interrogates the relationship between type and place, text and landscape, and thus ultimately identity. Across the exhibition title, a supergraphic was rendered along the gallery walls. The concept is complemented by 16 large-scale atmospheric photos with matching contours and shared horizons. Together they trace a fictitious visual journey from “the Valley of Darkness, up Mount Inaccessible to Farewell Spit”.
