Fan heaters for domestic interior use are often criticised for providing insufficient heat. Although heating performance can be improved by expanding the surface area of the heating element, this frequently comes at the expense of a compact and aesthetically appealing design. The design concept for the TN1 addresses these conflicting priorities with an unusual shape reminiscent of a motorsport racetrack. The oval structure extends the surface area of the heating element without increasing the volume of the skirting board heater. The TN1 has other surprises in store beyond its distinctive form. There is the integrated lifting mechanism that defines both the function and the design of the product. When it is turned on, the heating element gently rises up and subtly signals to the user that the appliance is working. This simple movement gives the TN1 an emotional quality – as if it were coming to life at that very moment. At the same time, the mechanism directs the heat output to provide extensive coverage and even heating throughout the space. It is supported by a built-in crossflow fan. To reduce the time it takes for users to feel warm, the airflow duct has also been optimised. The finely tuned symbiosis of delayed start-up and rapid increase in fan speed results in a progressive accumulation of heat. As soon as the heating element is fully extended, the fan accelerates noticeably and produces a strong, warm airflow. A graphene coating on the heating surface boosts the heater’s thermal efficiency. When turned off, the heating element retracts and closes flush, protecting the inner workings of the heater from dust and dirt. The jury was very taken with the carefully thought-out design. “The precise and straightforward lifting mechanism of the TN1 not only fulfils a key technical function but also takes on an aesthetic role. The gentle movement of the mechanism has its own particular beauty that genuinely moved us. With its clean, geometric lines, the fan heater furthermore seamlessly blends in with modern interiors.”
