Torii Table

뒤로 다운로드

Torii Table is designed after continuous research and attempts to find a simpler solution to flat pack furniture. Traditional flat pack furniture sometimes requires complicated packaging and high transportation cost. This table offers simpler assembly, less small parts and less complicated packaging with a mortise and tenon structure. The design is inspired by the traditional Japanese torii gate, a simple gate structure that marks the entrance to a sacred place. These gates are held up by two supporting posts and horizontal beams usually made with stone or wood, and constructed without nails. Similarly, the Torii Table can be assembled without screws or nails because of the mortise and tenon structure, which also ensures the longevity of the product. A lot of details and practicalities of the design are thought through, and other values like flat pack packaging, self-assembly and sustainability are considered. The desktop sinks by 3 millimetres to prevent things from rolling off the table. A cotton thread connects the central crossbar to the horizontal support under the tabletop so that everything moves as a single unit. With the increased tension of the cotton thread, the friction between horizontal stick and the desktop puts the table into a stable and fixed status. All product information is printed on a piece of paper inside the packaging, along with the assembling instructions so that customers can enjoy the convenience of do-it-yourself assembly and disassembly.
