Urban Mood was developed as an interactive microsite that acts as a measure of people’s states of mind and creates a picture of urban mood. It records the atmosphere of ten German cities using social-media posts and local reports, such as tweets, Flickr photos, football-match results or weather forecasts. Urban Mood’s aim is to establish which city is in need of a better atmosphere in order to be able to react in an appropriate way. The essence of the development of this microsite was a desire to present the data in an emotional and playful way rather than as neutral facts and figures. Complex Origami icons mutate into a lively experience, and users encounter the results authentically and in real time.
