This book is an homage to Xicang Market, a traditional weekly market in Xi’an. Because of the way towns and cities in China are changing, markets like these are becoming increasingly rare. The choice of the objects used as stalls, the way products are displayed and the individual design of the handwritten signs are presented in the book and characterise the style of the editorial design. The content is divided into eight chapters corresponding to the main elements of a local market: location, market, signs, stalls, oral accounts, goods, prices and vendors. The idea behind is to minimise the design and restore the vivid scene of the market with every independent chapter.
