The Red Dot Winner Label adorns the year’s best designs and helps consumers to recognise high-quality design products. The symbol of good design can be found on all kinds of objects, from smartphones or TVs to sports equipment or outdoor clothing and robots, furniture and vehicles. It won’t be long before the jury once again convenes to choose the winners of the sought-after award. Designers and manufacturers from all over the globe are currently registering their products in the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2019. They can enter their innovations in the competition up until 1 February. The award is one of the world’s most renowned design competitions and for more than 60 years has been synonymous with a fair and independent assessment.
Guidance for consumers
Nowadays, a product’s design is more important than ever. More and more companies are aware of the value of good design. This is one of the reasons why the Red Dot Award is being increasingly used as an evaluation platform. The mass of products that appear to be the same makes it difficult for consumers to choose. “It’s nice to see that consumers are using our label to help them make their purchasing decisions. They can rest assured that our experienced jury tests each product individually and follows clear criteria when granting an award,” says Professor Dr. Peter Zec, founder and CEO of Red Dot.
Direct product evaluation
The jurros attach importance not only to the aesthetics, but also to functionality, ergonomics, longevity, product periphery and a self-explanatory nature. In order to test these criteria, they try out each product individually and hold intensive discussions in order to judge the design quality of the entries.
Finding award-winning products
Consumers will encounter the Red Dot quality label in a multitude of different settings, from specialist retailers to online shopping or browsing through a specialist magazine. Designers and companies can use the label if their product has won an award in the competition. Consumers can, however, also find the award-winning designs via Red Dot’s Online Exhibition, in product presentations around the world, in the yearbook and in the Red Dot App.
