The guidance system at the gibb vocational college in Bern, Switzerland, utilises the concept of a traditional signpost to navigate visitors from all possible directions. Combining modernism with traditional styles, the system takes its visual cues from the surrounding 1930s architecture and industrial buildings. Short, concisely designed arrows and lettering on 35 cm thick steel tubes are reminiscent of a traditional signpost, directing people in any and every direction. Moreover, a 3D site plan has been set up to further aid orientation, with information written on both sides to reflect the dynamics of visitor flows.
