Offshore wind farms have been an issue of concern for commercial fishing interests. Although most small-scale fishers are significantly affected at the moment, the scale and speed of wind farm development offshore might mean that the situation is likely to change in the near future. The primary concern for small-scale fishers is the potential loss of access to fishing grounds within turbine zones. On the other hand, infrastructure for conventional floating wind turbine is a huge cost. Its design can be improved to become even more useful in marine spaces. Hybrid Wind Power Generating & Fish Farming System rethinks marine spatial planning and is designed resolve this conflict between wind energy companies and small-scale fishing companies, leading them to collaboration. The base infrastructure can be developed into a self-feeding fish farming cage system.This infrastructure is a Vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT), unlike a horizontal axis wind turbine, a VAWT doesn’t have complex steering systems, and has a lower centre gravity. The fish cage structure with a small waterplane area twin-hull feature ensures that the system more stable against ocean wave impact. To continue their business, wind energy companies can rent fish farming zones from small-scale fishers to set up these hybrid systems, or hire and train local coastal fishers to work as wind turbine maintenance engineers. And the small-scale fishing companies rely on local government or bank funding to grow into an energy company and run both a wind energy and a fish farming business.
