As the Polish city of Kraków defines itself as a place that is rich in tradition and culture but also modern and aspiring, the new visual communication system needed to reflect this. Marking the beginning of an image-changing process, the new system is based on the motif of a map, adapting the new logo as a coherent element of communication. A set of four tools was developed, comprising map, icon, frame and clouds. While the map motif is a capacious means of narration, the symbols of Kraków became pretexts for telling an urban story with the use of the icon alphabet.
