Accompanying “Lingua Digitalis”, the third book in the worldwide published Lingua series, this poster series was developed, alongside a website and an app, for book retailers and selected points of interest to promote the extensive compendium of globally understood, pictogram-based language. The posters feature typical country-specific clichés in the form of playfully assembled icons that come across as likeable pictogram faces, issuing onlookers with a tongue-in-cheek invitation to express themselves in cultures and languages that are basically foreign to them by using pictograms. The designs show typical country-specific products – a beer jug for Germany, a wine glass for France or an espresso cup for Italy – that are enhanced with poignantly illustrative details that make the respective country and the specific characteristics of the people living there become globally understandable without and beyond words.
Statement by the jury
»This work manages to impressively convey multiple meanings of the portrayed countries thanks to cleanly illustrated elements. Based on carefully selected pictograms, each poster motif shows a face that has been designed to vividly express the characteristics of the depicted countries. This is achieved through a clear language of form and colouring.«
