Marks of Vernacular Architecture

Back Download

The architectural design of this restaurant is inspired by traditional house building techniques in rural China. Wood as the main construction material has been used for centuries in traditional Chinese architecture. The individual ceiling beams form a frame held together only by mortise and tenon joints, another characteristic feature of traditional Chinese housebuilding techniques. The ceiling construction intentionally remained uncovered, so that visitors are able to see and marvel at the impressive carpentry work.
