The design of MC² Self Driving Car is based on a single compact cabin design with 4 wheels on the corners to maximise usable space in the car. MC² Self Driving Car includes self-driving technology and instruments such as radar, lidar, and cameras which are integrated into the design of the car. The prototype has already been tested and used in some facilities such as airports, industrial parks, universities, etc. The design of the car is inspired by pandas; it is also an expression of intelligent Chinese transportation for the future.
The interior of MC² Self Driving Car represents a brand-new spatial experience. The car is powered with efficient self-driving technologies and without traditional control components such as the steering wheel, pedals and dashboard, hence leaving more space for passengers. Taking advantage of this, the interior is instead fitted with a bench that curves around the interior of the cabin, creating a comfortable and semi-private atmosphere. In this way, all passengers in the car are free to interact with the in-car entertainment devices or other passengers.
The 3D sound construction, as well as interior LED mood lighting, is operated via voice activation. For practical reasons, the self-driving car has a control panel with an interaction channel. A smartphone application has also been created to be synced to the car’s central control touchscreen, which is placed at the front of the cabin.
Besides functioning as an autonomous car for the passengers, the self-driving car is equipped to communicate smoothly with pedestrians, bikers and motorcycle drivers on the road. Since the road is a public space, the information transparency of a self-driving car is crucial for the safety of the whole transportation system. To make the self-driving car‘s movement more communicative, a strip lights system wraps around the car’s body. Also, an LED (Light Emitting Diodes) display is installed on the front of the car to deliver detailed information and vehicular status.
