The catalogue showcases the results of the first workshop for artists in residence organised by the Osservatorio Mobile Nord Est (OMNE). It presents ten projects and ten visions located between memory and contemporaneity, analysing the complexity of the landscape of the north-east of Italy through a common theme of “work”. The work is understood as the foundation of the social pact that keeps a community united on the one hand, and as an element that configures a landscape to give it its identity on the other. Inspired by the theme of investigation, the catalogue is reminiscent of a typical archival collector at first glance, transforming that structure into a new interpretation though. The inside features different page formats and types of paper in order to visualise the passage from critical texts and contributions by teachers to the projects of internationally renowned artists, presenting them in the classic form of rubricated files.
Statement by the Jury
This publication fascinates with its unusual formal approach of presenting the works of the ten artists. It is laid out like a common archival collector with a register for easy reader guidance. However, it goes far beyond that concept in that it plays with different paper formats in order to live up to the artistic visions, combining typography and material into a unity that is highly convincing in both content and form.
