These filigree illustrations embellish the packages of Taiwanese pastries. The black-and-white graphics are inspired by themes from the Wanhe Temple in Taichung, a famous site dedicated to the Chinese spirit Mazu. Integral parts of traditional temple culture such as flower decorations and smoke can be easily recognised in the pictures. In order to suit the purpose of packaging, motifs of gifts are also included in the imagery. Thus, the illustrations have a decorative function while demonstrating an appreciation of local culture.
