PICNIC #08 – NI HAO, KITTY

Back

The “PICNIC” magazine acts as a forum for graphic designers, photographers and illustrators. Each issue has a different subject matter. Issue No. 9 is dedicated to the ubiquity of “Hello Kitty” and follows the little kitten all around the world. Some people say that the character is based on “Miffy”, a small rabbit, created by Dutch artist Dick Bruna in 1955. In Japanese, “Hello Kitty”, which was first designed by Yūko Shimizu in 1974, refers to a group of various characters, while the kitten itself is known as Kiti Howaito (Kitty White) or as Kitty-chan.
